Hospital drama! 

Most people probably spend their time trying to avoid going to hospital, but for those who work in them they can be fascinating places!

In this lesson we'll explore what working in a hospital is like for a vlogger called Chelsie, and we'll also review reporting verbs, focusing on some common errors advanced learners make with them.

Part 2

So we have a wide  range of people coming up and it's really interesting  to see how the doctors treat a wide range of injuries.

People cam come in because they feel unwell or might not be able to breathe and they can be handle but it just needs to be watched.

I really enjoy talking to the patients and learning more about them.


When more serious cases in, that's when you learn a lot series injuries can change the whole vibe of hospital. Normally, when there aren't any really serious cases in the hospital, the doctors are seeing all patients and it's busy busy but it's calm/ They go around, they see all their patients. They assess them, they work out what's wrong with them and then they treat the injury.


When a serious case comes in everything changes. Patients can lose consciousness or there could be quite a lot of blood due to a bleed. The doctors and nurses become full of adrenaline and everybody knows it's all hands on deck to try and help that person. 

That's when it become a stressful.


But still through this process the doctors remain calm and focused and it's really interesting to see the role has made made we really how we should take precautions in everyday life to avoid being injured.

A lot of  things I see a little accidents that caused a lot of damage.

So it's good to know how everyday things such cooking and driving can cause  a lot of damage if we don't precautions.

Hi guys. I'm Chelsea today. I thought I'd sit down and talk about my role as hospital volunteer. I volunteer at my local hospital in the acute(серьёзный, неотложный) medical unit. It's the bit you wait in after you're been seen an accident (авария)and emergency(чрезвычайное положение)

"So, we have a wide range of people coming in, and it's really interesting to see how the doctors treat a variety of injuries. Итак, у нас много разных людей, которые приходят, и очень интересно видеть, как врачи лечат различные травмы.

But still, through this process, the doctors remain calm and focused, and it's really interesting to see the role that has made me realize how we should take precautions in everyday life to avoid being injured. Reporting verbs: common errors

It's common for advanced learners to make mistakes when using "say" and "tell" in reported speech, because they are followed by slightly different grammatical patterns:

She said (that) her name was Chelsie.

She told us (that) she was a hospital volunteer.

Many reporting verbs follow the same patterns as these two verbs, so try not to mix up their structures!

reporting verb + (that)

reporting verb + person + (that)... 

to say, to explain, to claim, to mention = that...

to tell, to inform = me that....


  1. To say (сказать):

    • Оригинал: She said, "I love this song."
    • Косвенная речь: She said that she loved that song. (Она сказала, что ей нравится эта песня.)
  2. To explain (объяснить):

    • Оригинал: He explained, "The process is quite simple."
