Read two types of texts
Let's be text detectives! Давайте станем текстовыми детективами! In this lesson we'll analyse two different genres ˈʒɑːnrəz/. (styles) of text relating to the same topic, and discover some of their features.
genres /ˈʒɑːnrəz/. Genres" - это категории, классифицирующие произведения искусства, литературы, музыки и другие формы творчества по общим характеристикам и стилю. Before we dive(погрузимся) into the texts, let's focus on how we approach (приблизимся) genre analysis...

Sometimes we might be asked to compare two texts so that we can highlight (выделить) the similarities and differences. We start by reading and analyzing each individual text focusing on different aspects of it. We may need to read each text several times. Introduction
Avocados have been an important staple /ˈsteɪpl/ (основной продукт) across the Americas for centuries, but the international demand ( международный спрос) for it has skyrocketed. This report seeks to ask what impact this unprecedented (небывалый) demand has on those who cultivate it, and questions how sustainable (стабильный) world avocado consumption truly is.
Carbon emissions
Growing avocados generates more carbon emissions than other fruits. It’s been estimated(оценено) that two small avocados have twice the carbon footprint of 1kg of bananas.
This is mainly due to the fact that the fruit has to travel long distances from where it is cultivated in Central and South America to markets in countries where the demand for avocados is high.

Finally, there are many ways in which the high demand for avocados is having a negative impact on local communities.
First, foreign demand is driving up prices of the fruit, so those who live in the regions where it is grown are finding it difficult to access.

While avocados do have positive impacts on our health, they have serious consequences for the environment which ought to be considered as we make dietary choices.
